Sometimes its hard to put ourselves first, even for a small slice of our day, but it’s not just us that benefits when we’re feeling good. Ask any Mother what happens when she’s sick or disengaged and the answer is always the same: the rest of the team (family) suffers as well! So in case you needed convincing during this month of love, here’s some very real benefits of incorporating a bit of self-love into your daily life:
1. Improved self-esteem: When we love ourselves, we develop a positive self-image and self-worth. This, in turn, leads to increased confidence and a more positive outlook on life. This positivity is infectious and, unlike that other gift that’s been crawling all over the planet for the last few years, it’s something we’d actually all LOVE to catch!
2. Better relationships: When we have a strong sense of self-love, we are able to attract healthy and fulfilling relationships into our lives. We are also less likely to tolerate unhealthy treatment from others and are more capable of setting boundaries and advocating for ourselves. So putting ourselves first genuinely creates more authentic connections with others.
3. Reduced stress and anxiety: When we are kind and compassionate towards ourselves, it helps to reduce the levels of stress and anxiety we experience. This is because we are less likely to be self-critical and more likely to treat ourselves with understanding and compassion.

4. Increased resilience: Self-love gives us the strength to cope with life's challenges. When we are confident in our own worth, we are better equipped to bounce back from setbacks and disappointment. When we focus on the welfare of our mental health for example, by meditating regularly or seeing a professional when we’re feeling like we’re not coping, we engage with coping mechanisms and tools for improving how we feel emotionally and psychologically.
5. Improved physical health: Research has shown that self-love can have a positive impact on our physical health. When we are kind and compassionate towards ourselves, it can help to reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, which can in turn improve our overall physical health. If we practice loving aspects of ourselves and focus mindfully on what our amazing body does for us, it makes it easier for us to treat it with the love and reverence it deserves.
So self-love is an essential component of a fulfilling and happy life. Incorporating self-love into your daily routine can help to improve your self-esteem, relationships, mental and physical health, and overall well-being. So, be kind and compassionate towards yourself, and remember that you are worthy of love and acceptance, just as you are! 😘
